ASPIRING teachers will be learning classroom technique at Wilmslow High School as part of a scheme to attract more people into the profession.

The high school is one of only three in the country to be chosen by the Government for a new scheme that offers taster courses for would-be teachers.

Gill Bremner, deputy head teacher, said the decision to use Wilmslow High is further recognition of their achievements - the school was recently awarded a cash bonus for improved exam results.

She said: "This is really excellent news. We have been given a great chance to do something very positive for the community and the profession as a whole.

"We will give people the chance to spend three days at a very progressive, forward thinking school and hope to give a real insight into what teaching is all about."

The Teacher Training Agency visited schools, universities and colleges before deciding on the most suitable sites to host the new courses.

Wilmslow High, Bramhall High and a North East comprehensive are the only secondary schools to be chosen for the scheme which will include more than 50 education centres across the country.

Mrs Bremner said: "We are very proud to have been chosen out of so many fabulous schools and colleges. "

Up to 20 people will be invited to each taster course, which is free to attend and will take place twice a year.

Wannabe teachers will be given a general over-view of what the job entails as well as the chance to sit in on classes To find out more about the taster courses contact Paul Morris, the high school's professional development officer, on 01625 526191.
