I can be found most mornings around 8am with my dogs in Macclesfield’s South Park.  In the evenings we often stroll around Victoria and West Parks.

Sunday mornings I walk the Carrs in Wilmslow helping owners train their dogs. I spend an awful lot of time in local parks and it’s clear there’s a huge effort goes into their upkeep.

Council staff do an amazing job considering how few of them there are to go around.

Sadly, all the parks suffer from graffiti, vandalism and damage costing taxpayers a fortune.

There are regular fires lit around the kids skateboard parks and enough broken glass strewn around to cause lots of serious injuries.

Taxpayers pick up the bill for all this vandalism and I can’t help thinking a full time park keeper would be a worthwhile investment. When the park’s quiet they could litter-pick as they patrol.

Good liaison with community police officers would certainly help deter would-be vandals.

Look, I’m not saying park keepers could eliminate all the problems but they could certainly minimise the damage.

All they need do to be effective is save taxpayers the cost of their employment.

A test those at the top of the CEC gravy train fail with unabashed regularity.
