There will be dancing in the streets when Wilmslow’s Bank Holiday party kicks off for another year.

Colourful new dance acts are lined up for the eighth Wilmslow Community Street Party which is set to come alive with thousands of people on Grove Street on Monday, August 30.

Gracing the stage for the first time this year will be Indian dancer Monica Ballani who is making a special trip to Wilmslow from Bolton to perform traditional dance.

Kid dancers from Dance at the Smithy will make their debut at the event and Michelle Fotherby-O’Brien will appear again with her Dance Fever troop to get toes tapping.

Volunteer organiser Khumi Burton said: "We are ready with the bunting and the town is going to be alive!

"We have some great new dance acts this year and I’m sure people will join in with the dancing.

"I’m looking forward to seeing Bollywood dancer Monica Ballani and we expect an energetic performance from the children from Dance at the Smithy.

"It’s wonderful that new performers are joining our street party and Michelle from Dance Fever is always a great supporter."

The urge to dance would be nothing without music so popular jazz band Dixieland Hotshots and DJs from Imagine FM will be on hand with tunes throughout the day.

New charities are among the 22 organisations meeting people and raising funds on the day with a host of activities.

Special guests include Tatton MP and Chancellor George Osborne and Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire David Briggs.

Khumi says all signs point to the event, which attracts around 3,000 people every year and is funded by Cheshire East Council.

She said: "It’s a chance for businesses to open for all the new customers and for charities to tell people about themselves and make some extra money.

"It’s a day for children, parents, grandparents, friends and relatives to come and enjoy a good old-fashioned family day out.

"We have entertainment for everyone and it’s a real community event."
