A thug who assaulted a woman and smashed up her house has avoided jail.

Callum Wright, 22, attacked his victim in Macclesfield on June 26.

On the same day he recklessly damaged conservatory and kitchen doors of a house on Chester Road as well as a mirror, television and remote control.

When he was arrested he was found in possession of cannabis and cocaine.

At magistrates’ court, Wright, of Windsor Close, Bollington, admitted assault, criminal damage and two charges of possession of cannabis.

He was given a 10-week prison sentence, suspended for two years.

He was also given a rehabilitation activity requirement for 20 days and ordered to do 80 hours unpaid work.

Magistrates also ordered Wright to pay £730 compensation to the victim of the assault and £730 compensation for the damage.

He was also given a restraining order and banned from going near Chester Road, Macclesfield for two years.

In court documents, magistrates said the sentence was because it was a ‘domestic setting using lots of violence’.

Wright was also ordered to pay £200 court costs.
