TWO of Wilmslow's best known female presenters are in the frame for top jobs on ITV's new daytime schedules.

Glamorous newsreader Katie Derham, 34, and veteran kids TV presenter Jenny Powell, 36, have been roped in to bolster daytime TV ratings at the top channel.

Katie, currently pregnant with her second child, will join Nick Owen as the face of a new hour long lunch time news programme.

Jenny Powell will front a modern day Jim'll Fix It style show called 'Don't Just Dream It'.

Oxford graduate Katie landed her first job with ITV six years ago and her boss Nick Dacre predicted then she would go all the way to the top.

He said at the time: "She is one of the brightest young journalists in the country."

The former Cheadle Hulme School pupil lived with her family in Styal Road, Wilmslow, until her university days and returns home often.

Her dad John said when she started her career in television: "We are all very proud of her. She is very friendly, easy going and unaffected. The type of person who makes friends easily."

Katie started her career at the BBC where she began work as a researcher on Radio 4s Moneybox programme.

After celebrating the birth of her first child Natasha in 2000, Katie moved to ITN where she quickly established herself as a familiar face in news broadcasting.

Her move to the lunchtime spot on ITN marks a return to national coverage after two years presenting the main London evening bulletin.

She will be joined on ITV's new daytime schedule by fellow Wilmslow woman Jenny Powell.

Jenny has become a familiar face on TV since she began presenting in 1986, when she was chosen to front the cult music programme No Limits for BBC2.

She went on to appear on Wheel of Fortune for ITV, where she worked as John Leslie's glamorous assistant.

Most recently, Jenny has been presenting Granada's holiday programme Getaway, hosting a guest slot on ITV's Des and Mel Show, and co-hosting on both Terry & Gaby for Channel 5 and Loose Lips for Living.
