A teenager was punched and robbed during a violent street attack on the Weston.

The 17-year-old girl was walking close to Weston Square when she was stopped by a man.

He initially asked for her directions, but then pushed her against a wall and punched in her face.

He stole her mobile phone before fleeing the scene.

The girl suffered swelling and bruising to her face as a result of the attack.

Police are now appealing for help in catching the offender.

He is described as white with a pale complexion, aged between 19 and 20 and about 6 feet tall.

He was wearing a black hooded top with the hood up and black tracksuit bottoms with an orange stripe.

Detective Constable Sarah Newton of Macclesfield CID said: "Incidents of this nature are uncommon in the Macclesfield area and we take all such reports extremely seriously.

"We are currently following a number of lines of enquiry and would ask that anyone with information contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 1099 of 31 October 2012.
