A teenager suffered a head injury after she fell around 30 feet while camping at the Edge.

Mountain rescue and 10 paramedics attended the incident in Alderley Edge at 9.20pm on Saturday night, when they received a call that a 17-year-old had been knocked unconscious after losing her footing and falling over a rocky ledge.

The girl, who suffered a fractured eye socket, was treated at the scene before being taken to Salford Royal Hospital. She is expected to make a full recovery.

The girl and her friends had been camping in a remote location in the National Trust grounds, some distance from Macclesfield Road, when the accident happened.

Sergeant Andy Miller, of Macclesfield police, who attended the incident, warned people not to camp overnight at the Edge.

He said: “Luckily the victim’s friends were on hand to call the emergency services and meet the police and paramedics to lead them to the scene of the accident. Incidents such as this are rare but highlight that remote locations such as this can be very hazardous in the dark.

“With Halloween approaching we would urge people not to attend at the Edge as has been the case in recent years.

“This incident was hazardous for all members of the emergency services who responded due to the darkness and difficult terrain.”
