If you’re a pet owner how do you get along with your vet? We’re very lucky in our area to have a number of good competent practices.

My vet has looked after all my dogs, talked me through difficult procedures, educated me to deal with minor emergencies and never fails to return a call when I have a problem.

She’s a lot more than just a vet – she’s helped me through some very difficult decisions with old dogs I regarded as lifelong friends. I know from the stories you tell me you enjoy similar relationships with your own vets.

A well-known chain store has now entered the local veterinary market and no doubt there will be introductory offers.

Times are tough and we all need to watch our expenses so a new player in the market may help reduce our bills.

That’s competition.

But before you make a change talk to your vet. Explain why you’re considering the move. Switching vets isn’t like using a different dry cleaner.

My vet stood beside me while my beloved Blue passed away and didn’t run off when I blubbered like a baby. (Doubt I’m going to get that from a chain store.) Her timely advice has saved me a fortune.

Think about it carefully. If switching vets makes sense then do what you have to do.

I’m going nowhere.
