It’s that time of year when large charities place TV ads to boost their income and, boy, does it work. But what about those small local charities that are too embroiled in helping those in need to have a ‘marketing strategy?’

Macclesfield Mind does a wonderful job offering meals, care and advice for those unfortunate souls who need psychiatric help and support. Typically, these patients can wait several months for a NHS appointment so who’s going to help in the meantime? Macclesfield Mind, that’s who.

They’re too busy listening, cooking meals and caring to be shaking tins on the street, so any donations will be greatly appreciated. Mind is based at 3-5 Duke Street, Macclesfield SK11 6UR.

When was the last time you were hungry? I don’t mean peckish, I mean desperately hungry?

Well, believe it or not there are lots of families in that situation. While politicians pontificate over their Remy Martin this Christmas, some parents will struggle to feed their children. Where do they go for help? Sylklife Centre is a church based charity doing a brilliant job distributing food parcels to those in dire need.

They are desperate for Christmas puds, mince pies, Christmas cakes, crisps, nuts, savoury biscuits, selection boxes, Christmas crackers, boxes of biscuits/chocolates.

You will find the Sylklife Centre at George Street, Macclesfield, SK11 6HS or you can drop your parcels off at Sainsbury’s in Macclesfield. If you don’t have time to do either send them a cheque like I did. They’ll be enormously grateful.

Guess what happens to pets during a recession? MPs’ salaries may be recession proof but pets are at the top of the list when it comes to cutbacks. This is a dreadful time for abandoned pets whose numbers have rocketed this year.

If you’re a cute little puppy or kitten you will be adopted pretty quickly but if you’re a 10-year-old mongrel with arthritis. you’re on your own.

Well, you would be were it not for the good folks at Windyways Animal Sanctuary on Buxton Old Road, Macclesfield, or Animal Support Volunteers based at Morley Green Club Wilmslow, SK9 5NT.

Both these charities provide hands-on care for abandoned pets in dire need.

They spend every waking hour, looking after animals no one wants. They don’t have time to sell lapel badges outside Marks and Spencer. Maybe you can find it in your heart to adopt an unwanted pet? If so get in touch.

If not, I’m sure a donation would be greatly appreciated.
