It was the moment everyone had waited for....the solar eclipse in Macclesfield.

All eyes were on the skies as the region was plunged into darkness during the spectacular phenomenom.

And our readers didn't disappoint - we've been inundated with images.

From back gardens in Bollington to coffee shops in the centre of town, time stood still as people stopped to catch a glimpse.

For many the experience was marred by the clouds - but we still got to experience the biggest eclipse since 1999, even it it meant Macclesfield just went dark.

The event lasted for nearly two hours, starting just before 8.30am and peaking at 9.30am when the moon covered 90 per cent of the sun.

The partial eclipse started as a total eclipse over the North Atlantic, with partial eclipses visible all the way south to North Africa and the Middle East.

If you missed it, then you've got a long wait as the next partial eclipse will take place in 2026.

The next total eclipse is due here in 2090.
