The Met office has issued a severe weather warning with snow, sleet, hail and ice forecast to hit Macclesfield tonight.

There will be wintry showers this evening (Thursday, November 17) and overnight into Friday, which will lead to icy roads, with snow expected in the higher areas of the borough.

There could be up to 6cm of snow in the hills, with the heavy rain producing slushy conditions at low levels.

The Met Office has issued a Yellow weather warning.

Chief forecaster at the Met office said: “A cold northwesterly airstream will bring heavy showers or rain, sleet, snow and hail through this period. Clear spells in between will allow temperatures to fall close to or below freezing - hence the likelihood of some ice.

“Please be aware of possible tricky travel conditions.”

The snow is expected to snow in the early hours of Friday morning.

After a crisp start there will be sunny spells, with further showers and the risk of hail, thunder and hill snow in the evening. However it will be less windy.

Saturday is forecast to be sunshine and blustery showers, with the possibility of more snow on Sunday morning, although it is unlikely to stick as it will be mixed with rain.

Temperatures will fluctuate between 0 - 4 degrees, but will feel much colder.
