BUILDERS have kicked off a project to install a modern computer training suite at Macclesfield Town Football Club.

The intuitive educational plan is to create a modern information technology learning base for all members of the community to use - and it will be one without the atmosphere of a school classroom.

Colin Garlick, chief executive of Macclesfield Town, said: "We wanted to increase our awareness in the community.

"We have seen similar centres around the country, and we felt that the environment of an IT centre within a football ground would be a good idea."

The new computer suite, which will cost more than £200,000, will be situated in a room at the end of the new stand at Moss Rose.

It will feature 20 modern workstations with Internet access, three of which will be designed with height-adjustable tables to allow disabled use.

Colin said he hoped a wide range of different people would make use of the facility, which will be opened as a UK Online Learning Centre.

He said: "The new suite is for everybody - all ages, and all races."

The project was conceived with the help of local government and Macclesfield College.

It is envisaged that the college will provide daily tutoring within the suite, with late opening hours to allow more of the community to make the most of the new facilities.

The project, which has been funded by the Football Foundation, Government North West, and the Moss Rose Community Association, is expected to take about two months to complete.
