THE Silk Museum and a Macclesfield firm have joined forces to produce a silk picture fit for a queen.

Organisers of Her Majesty the Queen's visit to King's School approached the museum when they were trying to decide on a suitable gift to present to her.

A silk picture was the obvious choice and museum director, Louanne Collins, asked Lower Bank Street weavers, Spurcroft, to make it.

The final design is a map of Cheshire showing all the districts.

In each district is a local landmark associated with that area - King's School has been chosen for Macclesfield.

On the mount surrounding the picture that is being presented to the Queen will be all the district crests, which have been hand-painted.

The silk map is also on sale and can be ordered through The Silk Shop, at the Silk Museum, Roe Street, Macclesfield.

Louanne said: "It its a limited edition picture, so people are only going to be able to get it for the next month.

"And any profit from the sale will go towards the Queen's Golden Jubilee Fund."

She added: "We have been really pleased to get involved in creating a memento for the Queen on this historic occasion."

The Cheshire in Silk picture costs £50, plus £5 postage and packing, and can be ordered through The Silk Shop.

And the picture that is given to the Queen will then go on display in the Information Centre in Macclesfield from July 27 for two weeks.
