SO, DID you cast your vote at the local elections? It was a mite confusing don’t you think? Initially I thought I was voting to elect ONE councillor; then I understood I could vote for THREE but if I voted for TWO it might negate my ballot paper but it didn’t, so I could. It was all a bit bizarre.

I know my current councillor( Tory) and was happy to vote for her. Steve Carter (Labour) stood in my ward and he’s no push over so I voted for him. As for the rest, they could have been Martians for all I knew. Conservative and Labour did at least stick leaflets through my letterbox, the Lib Dems, true to form, did absolutely nothing. There was the obligatory Green party member, some bloke with a posh name together with a random pick and mix.

Reading the literature every candidate sounded the same. School governor, magistrate, three years on the council, rides a bike, makes all his own frocks yadda, yadda, yadda.

It was all a bit dull. Where was our Red Ken, Big Cyril or the Monster Raving Loony Party? (Come to think of it, where was Sir Nick?) The nearest I came to excitement was when my pencil broke in the polling booth. Surely we can do better than this?
