A PERVERT caught committing a lewd act while peering through the window of a house has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years.

Joseph Bottoms, 27, was caught by police after a woman spotted him with his trousers down outside her neighbour’s house, a court heard.

On his arrest, Bottoms told officers he had only been trying to see what was on the woman’s TV before deciding to commit the lewd act on a ‘crazy impulse’, magistrates were told.

Bottoms, pictured, formerly of Thorneycroft Street, Macclesfield, admitted voyeurism at a previous hearing at Macclesfield Magistrates’ Court.

On Thursday (September 18) at the same court, magistrates ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years. He was also given a three-year community order with a requirement to attend a sexual offenders’ program.

Bottoms was also given a restraining order prohibiting him from standing outside the victim’s home.

Debbie Byrne, prosecuting, told the court that a neighbour of the victim confronted Bottoms after spotting him in the middle of the night.

She said: “It was around half past midnight when a woman was woken by a loud bang. She looked out of her window and saw Mr Bottoms looking through the window. She was taken aback in shock.

“She could see he had his trousers lowered from his waist and resting on his upper legs.

“She decided to go outside and speak to Mr Bottoms, saying ‘that’s disgusting’.

“The complainant said she was disturbed and felt violated. The witness said she also felt disturbed by what she had seen.

“Mr Bottoms said in a police interview that he was curious as to what was on TV and so looked through the window. He saw her sleeping on the sofa.

“He admitted she was attractive and said he was not thinking clearly.

“He accepts his behaviour was distressing. He said it was a crazy impulse.”

Jenny King, defending, told magistrates since Bottoms’ arrest he was living in a hotel. She said: “He does not know why he did it. He did not think it would hurt anyone. He looked through the window because he was curious.”
