SEX sells...and it seems the people of Macclesfield are getting more than their share.

For the town could soon be getting a second sex aid shop - when many towns don't even boast on.

Randy students could even qualify for a 20 per cent discount on goods at the new store.

It might seem that residents have a reputation of being a kinky lot for a second application to be made for a licensed sex shop.

But Sally Cronshaw, who has applied to open the shop at 43 Sunderland Street, denied she had any inside information about the sex lives of Macclesfield people.

She said she didn't pick the town for any particular reason.

"I know there is already a shop in Macclesfield," she said. "But I found a shop premises that I thought would be ideal."

Mrs Cronshaw already owns a shop in Preston, Lancashire, which opened last year.

It is not known whether she is going to extend the offer of a 20 per cent discount for Preston students to Macclesfield College students.

But Mrs Cronshaw said she wanted her shops to appeal to couples and have a more mature atmosphere.

Macclesfield has had a licensed sex shop, Private, in Chestergate for more than ten years.

It is run by Darker Enterprises, based in Barking, Essex, but staff at the shop would not comment on the possible competition.

Mrs Cronshaw did not want to give away too many details about the shop and what it would stock until she knew a licence had been granted by the borough council.

But her Preston shop sells sex aids, novelties for hen nights and videos.

A spokesman for Macclesfield council said: "We have received an application and it is now in the consultation period.

"At the end of this period the matter will go before the licensing sub-committee and the applicant and anyone who has a view will be invited to attend.

"There is already a sex shop in the borough and the council has a model set of rules for the operation of such premises."

These include having no window display and restrictions on signs being displayed.
