The search is back on at a busy shopping centre to find Macclesfield’s sunniest smile – and we want Express readers to choose the best.

The Grosvenor Centre has joined forces once again with the Macclesfield Express to launch a very special and joyful contest with a £300 total prize fund.

With what we all hope is a long and bitter winter behind us, we are celebrating the late but welcome arrival of the warmer weather with the return of Macclesfield’s Sunniest Smile for 2013.

Last year, judges choose the winning smiles of Dan Lancaster in the male category, Hilda Jackson in the female category, and a special children’s category prize went to Yasmin Morgan.

Each scooped a fantastic prize for showing us their very best grin.

Back even bigger and better and by popular demand, on Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4, a professional photographer will be on a smile hunt at the Grosvenor Centre to find the very best grin that Macclesfield has to offer.

There will be three categories in all – male, female and children aged 12 and under – with one winner from the male and female section scooping £100 of vouchers for various retailers at the centre. The winner in the children’s category will take home £100 of Argos vouchers.

But this time, we want Express readers to pick the winners with all the smiles captured going forward for a public vote.

The Grosvenor Centre is also looking for any community groups – dance troupes orchestras and drama groups – who might like to perform on the days the photographer is there to help encourage those smiles.

The contest was originally thought up by Peter Luty, Grosvenor Centre manager.

He  said: “We are smiling all round to be linking up with the Macclesfield Express again this year to search for Macclesfield’s Sunniest Smile.

“It was such an uplifting occasion last year and I know our shoppers really enjoyed seeing our gallery of grins in the newspaper and also on display in the shopping centre too.

“It couldn’t help but make you laugh.”

Peter added: “We feel very fortunate at the Grosvenor Centre to be at the heart of such a vibrant, caring and close-knit community which has its own distinctive identity.

“So we wanted to bring back this positive and uplifting search for the biggest, broadest smiles in Macclesfield and celebrate all the very many reasons to be cheerful about living and working in the town.”

Professional photographer Gerry Henshall will be on hand at the centre from 1pm on Friday, May 3, and noon on Saturday, May 4, to snap the very best of Macclesfield’s smiles, male or female, young or old.

The very best pearly whites will go up on display at the Grosvenor Centre and will also feature on the pages of the Express next month with a special voting coupon in the paper to allow you to decide who wins.

Coupons can then be posted in a special post box at the shopping centre.
