If you do nothing else tomorrow, do cast your vote for the Police and Crime Commissioner.

This is the biggest say you are ever likely to have on the running of Cheshire Police.

Remember all those times you were incensed at poor police performance and felt your views went unheard. This is your chance to change the old ‘Home Office knows best’ system to an elected Police Commissioner who must impress the public he/she serves or face being thrown out at the next election.

The new commissioner will either remain in the post or be evicted depending entirely on the vote of residents.

Can you imagine any of the stupid policing policies we’ve had thrust on us in the past happening if the Police Commissioner’s job had relied on his/her performance record?

You must vote for whoever you believe will do the best job. My vote will go to Independent Sarah Flannery, who runs her own business and has no affiliations with any political party. (I really don’t want my police commissioner’s strings being pulled from Westminster.)

Neither do I want anyone associated with the old policing regime that presided over the closure of police stations and the ‘officers on the beat don’t catch criminals’ mentality.

They’ve had their opportunity. Now is the time for change.

If Martin Bell believes Ms Flannery to be the right candidate then I shall be in good company.

Go Sarah!
