The 11 children aged between six and nine years old from Alderley Edge Community Primary School will take part in a mini triathlon to raise money for the Wilmslow branch of Dyslexia Action.

Among the sporty mates is Ryan Vigerstaff, eight, and his sister Leila, seven, who raised £635 last year for the centre which Ryan goes to every week for specialist dyslexia teaching.

Ryan said: “I love my lesson at Dyslexia Action and I’ve made a new friend there. Dyslexia Action helps me and I want to help them.”

This year they signed up some of their best friends for the triathlon at Total Fitness in Wilmslow.

The kids will swim 25m, cycle one km on the exercise bikes and run 500m around the track.

Ryan, who lives in Wilmslow with mum Rashara and dad Philip, said:  “We can’t wait to do our challenge and hope people will help us get to our goal.”

The kids aim to raise at least £1,000 for the centre which has around 90 pupils, children and adults, who mostly attend for one class a week.

Ryan’s mum Rashana, married to Phillip, said: “Ryan attends the centre once a week for specialised classes, for strategies to help him learn. There’s been a real transformation in his confidence.  We’re very lucky to have a centre like this in Wilmslow.”

The centre was known as the Dyslexia Institute on Swan Street before moving to Hawthorn Lane in 1998.

Marilyn Jones, centre principal, said the money will help pay for resources including specialist reading books.

She said:  “It’s amazing what Ryan and his friends are doing.

“We’re finding it quite difficult to buy the things we need and really appreciate fundraising like this.”

The triathlon challenge is on Sunday, April 27.

Finance company MotoNovo has already donated £250 donation.
