A courier was smashed on the head with a golf club during a daylight cash-in-transit robbery in the centre of Poynton.

A balaclava-clad man attacked the worker close to the Post Office on Chester Road and London Road yesterday (May 23) at noon.

He was hit with a golf club shortly after parking his van when his attacker demanded the cash box the courier was carrying.

The crook ran off with the box where it is believed he jumped into the passenger side of a black Honda Civic, which then drove off along Chester Road to Woodford.

The offender is described as being in his early 20s, around 5ft 8ins and of medium height. He was dressed all in black.
