RESIDENTS can still have their say on a massive development which objectors claim erodes the green belt.

Developer Harrow Estates wants to build 920 homes on the former BAE Systems site on the former Woodford Aerodrome site, near Poynton.

Alongside there are plans for business units, a pub, a school, shops, a care unit and community facilities.

Poynton town council argues the plan contravenes government guidelines that Green Belt boundaries should be altered only in exceptional circumstances through the Local Plan.

The scheme was approved by Stockport council in October is now in the hands of secretary of state, Eric Pickles, who can hold a public enquiry.

The chance for residents to share their views with Mr Pickles has extended so the council is calling for people to call for a public inquiry into the plan.

Coun Laurence Clarke, who chairs the council’s Planning Committee, said: “As well as significant erosion of the Green Belt is the excessive scale of the proposed development at Woodford. This would result in the overloading of already stretched services and facilities, such as doctors, dentists and schools in neighbouring communities, including Poynton, as well as significant increases in traffic volumes where the roads are already fully loaded.
