A MACCLESFIELD business woman has come to the rescue of a little girl who lost all her possessions in Hurricane Ivan.

Anneke Meijer heard about the plight of three-year-old Electra McErlean from a friend and decided to brighten up her Christmas.

Electra was living on the Cayman Islands with her two older brothers and parents when Hurricane Ivan hit Grand Cayman. The family, originally from Ireland, have since been renting an apartment in Florida while they rebuild their home and business.

Electra's aunt, Anita McErlean of Tytherington, who is Anneke's friend, bought the tot a Disney play castle for her third birthday.

Sadly, all that remained of the castle after the hurricane was one turret, which the McErlean family found down the road.

So Anneke, who runs MPA Leisure Wear, Peel Street, Macclesfield, set about making their Christmas one to remember after their traumatic time.

Another castle was donated by Woolworth's in Macclesfield and it was delivered to Florida free of charge by DHL, a worldwide courier.

Anneke said: "Electra has been the one most affected by the hurricane and has been very weepy and very clingy to her parents.

"She misses her friends, home and routine and we are sure this present will really cheer her up.

"Anita said she got a phone call from a very excited little girl when she received her parcel!"
