Preparations are underway for this year’s Wilmslow Christmas extravaganza.

The town’s business leaders are getting ready to put on a spectacular 10 day festival which will begin on Friday, November 25 with the Christmas lights switch-on by a celebrity guest on Grove Street.

It will also include a Continental Christmas Market along Alderley Road, an ice-skating rink on Bank Square, a Santa’s grotto, street entertainers and a Victorian Carousel and other children’s rides on Parsonage Green.

Other events include a Churches Together carol concert on Sunday, December 4 at Santa’s Romany Caravan, and a Christmas Tree Festival at St Teresa’s Church.

Wilmslow High School and the town’s retailers have organised a snowman hunt and there will be music and celebrity guests, organised by Imagine FM, to spread the Christmas spirit and encourage shoppers to the town.

Denise Valente, one of the organisers, said: “The market will provide a totally continental feel, encompassing the flavours and delicacies from the European Union.

“And then there’s the all important magical Santa’s grotto which will be in the Romany caravan. Hoopers are decorating the caravan, transforming it into a magical land where little kids will build memories. It really should be a magical experience and we’ve been reliably informed that Santa will be in demand, so don’t leave it too late.”

She added: “There are still a number of sponsorship opportunities available to local business who are interested in being associated with and supporting the town’s Christmas celebrations. It should be a great event and a fun time will be had by all.”
