Primary school SATs are revealed - but six opted out of exams

Prestbury CofE Primary School has been ranked top of the class in Macclesfield when it comes to pupils’ performance in the 2010 SATs.

Prestbury CofE Primary School has been ranked top of the class in Macclesfield when it comes to pupils’ performance in the 2010 SATs.

Primary schools across the country have been scored based on the percentage of pupils achieving Level 4 – the expected standard for their age in maths and English.

Ninety-eight per cent of 11 year olds at the Bollin Grove primary achieved the national standard in the core subjects, putting it at number three in the Cheshire East league tables.

Barbara Hurrell, deputy head at the school, said: "We are delighted with the continued high standards achieved by the children.

"This reflects their hard work and the commitment by the staff to provide an inspiring and creative environment in which to learn."

Lostock Hall Primary School, in Poynton, also performed well with at 95pc pass rate, smashing the national average of 73pc.

And children and staff at Bollington Cross CofE Primary School, in Bollington, worked hard to improve on last year’s pass rate, with 78pc of students making the grade, a 16pc increase on last year.

Once again Macclesfield students outperformed the national average of 73pc, with a 80pc pass rate across the town. But figures and the official league tables this year have been skewed by the failure of six Macclesfield schools to hold the exams in May in a stand against a "flawed testing regime".

Head teachers at Bosley St Mary’s Church of England Primary School, Ivy Bank Primary School, St Alban’s, Marton and District, Wincle Church of England Primary School and Gawsworth Primary School all chose not to administer the tests in May, arguing they are bad for children and schools.

These schools have not appeared in the league tables.
