A man had to be cut free from his car and another driver was arrested following a crash yesterday afternoon.

Firefighters were called when a 53-year-old driver became trapped in his blue Ford Focus after it flipped on its roof following the collision crash with a black Porsche Cayenne Turbo Estate at around 4.10pm on Burleyhurst Lane in Mobberley.

The man, from Sandbach, was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Porsche, a 66-year-old man from Siddington, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

A police spokesman said: "The Ford came to rest upside down in a field. The 53 year old driver from Sandbach was extricated from the car by firefighters. He was then treated by paramedics at the scene then taken to Wythenshawe Hospital with serious injuries."

Police closed the road in both directions from Davenport Lane to Burleyhurst Lane and the junction of Mobberley Road and Eccups Lane.

The road will remain closed while accident investigators assess the scene and both cars are removed.

A spokesman for Wilmslow Fire Station said: "Firefighters attended a report of a road traffic collision with persons trapped at Burley Hurst Lane in Mobberley.

"On arrival, crews from Wilmslow and Knutsford released one trapped male from the vehicle."
