THAT’S another fine garden you’ve gotten us into.

Wilmslow’s newest green fingered gurus on the block ‘Floral and Hardy’ have put together a magnificent creation for the RHS Tatton Flower Show.

Business partners Hilary Pinnock and Hugh Thomas have been up and running for three seasons but the seeds of the their current venture were laid by chance many years before on the QE2.

Hilary, 50, of Wingfield Avenue, Wilmslow, was a tour officer on board and each crew member was given a VIP to look after and hers was none other than budding Pebble Mill plant expert Alan Titchmarsh.

She said: "Other people were given celebs and I was given the person nobody had heard of. He turned out to be a very pleasant chap and quite funny and many years later when I studied gardening I thought his work was great."

The former TV producer became a business partner with dad-of-three Hugh, 44, of Moor Lane following their RHS training at Ridge Danyers College, Cheadle Hulme, and the pair have produced their first garden for the popular show.

Hilary said: "When we started out we thought we would be gold medal winners and Hugh thought he would be the next Monty Don but now we will be happy just to get the garden out on time."

Incorporating local Kerridge stone into their display the pair have made a garden which is described as a "good use of urban space" and a place where you can "get away from the cruel world".

Hilary added: "We’re not reinventing the wheel and we are limited by the parameters of what the RHS demand."

Things are going from strength to strength for Floral and Hardy as they have kitted out Gawsworth Hall’s borders already this year and hope their ‘Urban Hideaway’ will showcase them to a larger audience and bring home the medal bacon at the show.

A lot of Hilary’s friends from her previous incarnation in the world of TV and media think what she does now is barking mad. She said: "They might think that but I’m happy to spend my days bent double weeding."

The RHS Tatton Flower Show is to be held at Tatton Park between Wednesday, July 23 and Sunday, July 27. For more information contact 0870 906 3811 or log onto www.rhs.org.uk/tattonpark .
