The woman who organised a bumper May Fair in Alderley Edge is planning a Christmas event in the village.

Christine Munro’s May event brought the village to life by attracting hundreds of people for a family day out.

Now she is turning her hand to a December fair, which will bring the Farmer’s Market into the village for a day.

This may have threatened a Christmas event which took place at Alderley Edge Cricket Club last year but organiser Emma Bolton, of the Lavender Tree, said this event will not go ahead this year.

She said the committee will instead concentrate on the summer fete at the club.

So Christine, pictured, is booking entertainment and signing up stallholders for the event on Sunday, December 11.

She wants to close London Road from Natwest bank to the Royal Bank of Scotland and Coun Frank Keegan met highways officers this week to discuss the closure – estimated to cost £2,500. Otherwise Christine will apply to close West Street and the road next to the library.

Christine said:  “We’ve booked fairground rides, a barrel organ and bouncy castles plus other childrens entertainment and stalls will sell homemade produce and crafts. I thought it would be lovely to build on the community feeling that we all felt when we had the Alderley Edge May Fair.

“I am trying to find something for everyone to bring into the village for the day, so that young and old can have a lovely fun-filled festive day.”
