Young performers with Down’s Syndrome and their families whipped out their best moves for a special charity event.

After being encouraged to ‘Get Active and Get Involved’ for Down’s Syndrome Awareness Day, the children and families who attend Saturday Club, a fortnightly youth group for children with Down’s, did just that.

The group met in the Dance Studio at Macclesfield Leisure Centre to take part in two hours of break dancing, street dancing and cheerleading, all led by experienced dance instructor Amy Mayers.

Each year the Down’s Syndrome Association hosts a week of awareness raising events which culminates in World Down’s Syndrome Day on March 21.

Amy said: “I’m so pleased with the progress the kids are making with their dancing.

“They have all worked so hard, and I loved them in their t-shirts.”

Saturday Club and Saturday Dance Club are fortnightly run groups for children with Down’s Syndrome, their siblings and friends, which enable them to make friends, practice communication skills, and develop confidence in a safe, stimulating environment.

The clubs are funded by The People’s Health Lottery, Nestle, and the Co-operative Community Fund.

They meet at the Elim Church, on Parsonage Street, Macclesield, and at Dance Club in the Upper Dance Studio at Macclesfield Leisure Centre, on Priory Lane.
