Macclesfield celebrated its 750th birthday with a weekend-long party at the Gawsworth Carnival. The wet weather failed to dampen spirits with events taking place throughout Saturday and Sunday.

Festivities started in the town centre with historical re-enactments before a huge carnival procession through Gawsworth village and onto the festival site.

There were then a number of events marking the anniversary of the granting of Macclesfield Royal Charter, including a ceremonial arrow shoot.

There was also a vintage vehicles display, fairground, fireworks display and live bands.

Proceeds from the event, organised by the Gawsworth Carnival Committee and Macclesfield Rotary Club, will go to local charities.
