Schoolchildren, brownies, businesses and community groups were among those to come up with quirky designs for this year’s Wilmslow Christmas Tree Festival.

More than 50 trees were decorated by members of the community for the festival which rotates around the town’s churches and took place this year at St Bartholomew’s Church in Wilmslow.

Groups got creative with their designs, creating themed trees to represent themselves or something of their choice.

This included a sheep tree called The Flock made by the girls from 10th Wilmslow St Anne’s brownies.

There was a series of concerts as part of the festival. This included a Strings and Brass concert featuring the Brass Section of Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra, the Manchester Gospel Choir performed and there was a Christmas Carol Singalong with the St Bartholomew’s Church Choir, featuring the Chelford Handbell Ringers.

Joel Millett, from The Friends of St Bartholomew’s which organised the festival, said: “Over the three days we had hundreds of visitors to the festival. The evening concerts were well attended and the Christmas Carol sing-along on Sunday afternoon was a triumph.

“The festival was held in the parish church but it’s a real community event. The church looked beautiful with all the decorated trees and people really went to town on coming up with interesting ideas.”

Businesses Mackenzie Marketing, Nationwide Safety Surfaces and Castletons Accountants, teamed up to decorate their tree.

Catherine Mackenzie, managing director of Mackenzie Marketing, said: “St Bartholomew’s Church looked very festive with a real mixture of trees, each decorated to reflect the activities of the company or organisation which provided it.”
