Youngsters tracked down a killer as part of a crime scene investigation day.

Pupils from schools across Macclesfield came together to unearth clues and help uncover who was responsible for a fictional murder.

The year six sleuths took part in two CSI Forensics workshops at Tytherington School, on Manchester Road, Tytherington.

Along the way they used UV torches to look for blood samples left at the crime scene, checked fingerprints and even examined a body when an actor portrayed the murder victim.

After compiling evidence from around the crime scene and then drawing up a list of suspects, the budding Sherlocks used what they had learned to narrow it down to unveil the culprit.

The day was run by Education Active. The company uses forensic science workshops to help educate students how to use observation and deductive reasoning, together with science learned in the laboratory, to solve crimes in the real world, and also to learn how forensic science helps officers to solve crimes.

Vanessa Rigby, transition co-ordinator at the school, said: “During the morning, students from Bollington St John’s, Puss Bank, Marlborough, Pott Shrigley and Bollington Cross Primary Schools enjoyed solving the clues to find the murderer.

“The students had to carefully study evidence, including DNA and ballistics evidence, to unmask the killer.”
