Town councillors are continuing to plan for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and residents can vote to protect a Wilmslow park as part of the celebrations.

Wilmslow Town Council has been looking for ideas for a memorial and for how the town should celebrate the Queen's 60 years on the throne next June 2 to 5.

They have contacted schools to ask for ideas and are working with Rotarians and the Friends of the Carrs.

As part of the celebrations people around the country are being asked to vote for more than 2,000 parks to be protected as a permanent legacy - and Lacey Green playing fields in Wilmslow is on the list.

The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge, headed by Prince William and operated by Fields in Trust, is underway and Cheshire East Council - which has nominated four sites - is urging people to get voting as the deadline approaches.

The sites will benefit from extra protection and may also have access to additional funding.

The town council's deadline for memorial proposals - supported by a plan and estimate of costs - is November 30 and the winner will be announced at the end of the year. Entries for the celebrations should be submitted

by December 31 and the winner will be announced in January 2012.
