The Conservatives and independents continue to dominate Macclesfield’s parish councils after elections on Thursday.

There are 14 parish councils in Macclesfield, however only five were up for election with the majority uncontested.

The Tories came out with resounding victories in wards on two councils at the count at Macclesfield Leisure Centre on Saturday.

In Poynton East with Worth, party members Laurence Clarke, Charles Gorst, Rebecca Horsman, Geoff King, Bryan Lewis, Howard Murray, Jos Saunders Mike Sewart and Alex Smith defeated two Liberal Democrats to win election to the Poynton town council.

Mr Gorst said: "Poynton is a very small part of Cheshire East and is on the edge of things, so it is vital we have this voice."

The party also cleaned up in Disley winning all seven seats available.

Harold Davenport, Diane Guy, Paul Harris, Dave Kidd, Gaynor Marshall, Jackie Pattison and Linda Watson defeated four Labour candidates and one independent.

Mr Davenport said: "We are absolutely over the moon to all be elected. I think it is recognition of the work we have done for the local community."

Independent residents took all the seats in the three other contested councils.

In Bosley, seven independents were voted in from a shortlist of eight.

Sam Alston, David Heath, Albert Hollinshead, Sylvia Jenkinson, Ian Rawlinson, Brian Robinson and Francis Swindells were all successfully elected. Bruce Carter was the unlucky one to miss out, after falling 12 votes short.

In Siddington, another eight candidates without parties will make up the new council. David Billington, Betty Clarkson, John Bowden, Mike Brew, William Carbutt, David Furness, Paul Wain, and Barbara Wood were all successfully elected.

In Sutton, only the Sutton Lyme Green ward was contested. Ann Eyre, Keith Roberts and Philip Mayers were the three chosen. Bob Richardson missed out by six votes.
