Macclesfield's parents are to have their first opportunity to help shape the future of secondary education in the town.

A proposal by governors for Macclesfield High to be swallowed up into Tytherington High to tackle empty desks caused outrage among parents.

It was rejected by Councillor Hilda Gaddum, cabinet member for Children and Families, in favour of further consultation.

Informal consultation sessions outlining options for change will take place at Macclesfield Town Hall on September 15 and Macclesfield Town Football Club on September 16 from 1-3pm and 5-8pm.

The sessions, which are open to all, follow consultation events held last month for parents and carers of pupils at Macclesfield and Tytherington High Schools. Counc Hilda Gaddum, Cabinet member for children and families, said: "The consultation events at Macclesfield and Tytherington High Schools were well attended and generated some very useful feedback."

She said all feedback would be considered and those unable to attend drop-in sessions could contact the council. "I urge anyone with an interest in the future of education in Macclesfield to ensure they do not miss this important opportunity to have their say."

A feedback form can be completed online at the Council website www.cheshire east.gov.uk.
