A COUPLE are celebrating the New Year with a £10,000 lottery win.

Phil and Elaine Emmerson from Bollington can look forward to a prosperous 2015 after their win in the Health Lottery.

The couple have played the same numbers twice a week for three years.

But the winning ticket came when Phil, 64, randomly bought a Lucky Dip while waiting for Elaine, 51, in a supermarket.

The couple checked their numbers on Sunday after the December 13 draw but had to wait until Monday morning to see how much they won.

Phil said: “It was a nervous wait while they verified where and when we bought the ticket.

“I couldn’t believe it when they said we had won £10,000.

“It’s amazing. It’s not a million pounds but it’s a lot of money.”

Phil worked in the NHS for many years and retired from his job as health care assistant in 2010, the same year he married Elaine.

Phil, grandfather of one, said: “We chose to join the Health Lottery because it helps good causes involved in health care, which means a lot to me.

“We’ve had a rough time lately. Elaine’s late father had Alzheimer’s and her mother now has dementia.

“We plan to give something back for the support we get.”
