AS a talented guitarist and singer, Jake Evans has worked alongside some musical legends.

The 34-year-old has played with New Order star Bernard Sumner and Joy Division’s Stephen Morris in their Bad Lieutenant project and is currently gigging with Jimi Goodwin from Doves.

But 2014 could be a big year for the songwriter as he steps out of the shadows with his first solo album.

Jake, who lives in Kerridge, had a great response from his single ‘Easy on My Soul’ and hopes to release two more before unleashing the album ‘Day One’.

He said: “After working with some amazing songwriters and performers for many years, it feels great to have finally recorded my own album.

“Macclesfield has always inspired my song writing. It is a unique place with more than its fair share of creative people. Everyone supports each other.

“I just want to make music that I love and get my music out to as many people as possible.”

One of Jake’s major ambitions is to tour America, after previously being unable to go over the Pond and perform.

He said: “Twice during my time with Bad Lieutenant we had American tours scheduled, and twice they were cancelled because of the Icelandic volcano. I was really disappointed.

“It’s always been a place I wanted to tour and play music.”

The former All Hallows pupil started playing in bands when he was just 15 years old.

Jake’s first band, Rambo & Leroy, had a single played on XFM, and he also played with Macclesfield Brit Pop stars Marion for a short period.

In 2008 Jake was asked by New Order frontman Bernard Sumner to join his project Bad Lieutenant.

The band had some success with an album featuring Joy Division drummer Stephen Morris and Alex James from Blur, and they headlined the Friends of Mine festival at Capesthorne Hall in 2011.

Since New Order reformed in 2012, Jake has been focused on his own musical projects and launched The Big Red music studio and rehearsal rooms in Waterside late last year.
