CABARET nights at the Coach and Four pub may have struck a chord with councillors but for neighbours they are a real headache.

Councillors have granted a six month entertainment licence to the Alderley Road pub, allowing live music acts to play until midnight.

Residents living in nearby retirement apartments objected saying music at the pub was already causing sleepless nights.

Popular 'Stars In Their Eyes' tribute artists have hit a sour note with residents of Lynwood and Beechfield apartments after being introduced by new landlord Franco Resina.

Pat Chadwick, representative of Goldborough Estates - owners of the luxury homes, said: "Our residents have had to close their windows because of music coming from the pub, which is causing a lot of distress on hot nights.

"The pub has already held cabaret nights on Thursdays and the music has been very loud. It isn't right."

Hough councillor Wesley Fitzgerald defended angry residents at a meeting of the Regulation and Licensing Committee.

He said: "I have great concerns about this because I think the location of this pub is quite unique.

"This is in a residential area with a difference. Altogether we have got somewhere in the region of 150 residents within 80 metres of this pub."

Mr Resina introduced live cabaret acts which used to perform at the Sam Finney. He also organised a family fun day over the Jubilee weekend which led to complaints to the council.

Hamish Lawson, representing Hydes Brewery, said: "Mr Resina does not want to upset neighbours.

"We understand concerns caused by the Jubilee family fun day held in the car park but that is not what this application is about."

The entertainment licence is for Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
