A writer who goes by the name ‘The Naked Goddess’ and has been collecting celebrity poems for a book will recruit more poets at an event in Wilmslow.

Jeannette Slavinski, who used to teach at Alderley Edge School for Girls, is publishing her book of more than 300 poems in aid of Help for Heroes.

She began her quest at Clint Eastwood's ranch in America and other celebrity contributions include Dame Judy Dench and actor Jeff Goldblum.

Now she is preparing for an event at Rise coffee shop on Thursday, March 31, at 7pm, to collect more poems.

Owner Paul Eaton said: "She has chosen my independent coffee shop for an evening event to encourage Wilmslow people to come along and listen to other people’s poems or submit their own.

"Hopefully the event will inspire people to go away and write one."

Jeanette, from Bramhall, chose Help for Heroes because her father and grandfather were army officers.

Paul added: "The 94-year-old veteran Lieutenant Norman Harris will be here.

"He was in the Royal Artillery and Highlander regiment and donated a poem he wrote while stationed in Italy – just talking to him will hopefully inspire people.

"We will also have John Farmer who played for Stoke City and England in the 1970s and lives in Cheshire.

"He has submitted poems he wrote when he was younger.

"We are continuing to network and may well have some other celebrities attending."

The event costs £5 to enter and includes a glass of wine or a coffee and nibbles.
