Mums and tots went that extra mile to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

West Park was filled with 37 mums and their babies last Wednesday for the 11th annual mile walk around the area.

The group hopes to raise £500 from the event to add to the thousands already raised over the past decade.

Shirley Hill, mums and tots group leader, from Lark Hall Close, said: "This will be our 11th walk for Macmillan and so far we have raised more than £3,000 for the charity. This year we are hoping to raise another £500 for this worthwhile cause.

"We all really enjoy the walk, it is great for us all to get together, get some exercise with the children and raise money for Macmillan."

The walk is part of the Miles for Macmillan campaign. Money raised helps the charity provide services for people with cancer.

Sarah Page, fundraising manager, said: "We are very grateful to the mums and tots group for continuing this walk. It is a great fun day out for everyone and the children looked like they were enjoying themselves out in the sunshine.

"We want as many people as possible to walk for Macmillan this year so I would urge everyone to consider taking part in one of Macmillan’s organised walks or holding your own walk where and when it suits you.

"If you organise your own walk you can make sure it takes place somewhere you want to go at a time that suits you. And of course Macmillan will be there to support you every step of the way, providing hints and tips and materials to help promote your event."

Macmillan is currently funding several Macmillan cancer nurse specialists based at Macclesfield Hospital.
