A COUPLE of young mums with their fingers on the pulse hope to breathe new life into the teen scene in Alderley Edge.

Linda Morton and Catherine Martin want to fill a weekend entertainment gap for teenagers in a bid to start a 'pulse' at the heart of the village.

Their plan is to launch a monthly disco at the Festival Hall especially for youths aged 13-15.

Linda, a mum of three, of Fulshaw Park, believes that teenagers in Wilmslow and Alderley Edge are being short-changed.

"Our personal experience and research has shown that there is very little for teenagers to do during weekend evenings. We thought back to when we were teenagers, attending local discos, and felt that that was something we could do for young people in Wilmslow and Alderley Edge."

Linda and Catherine, a mum of two, of St John's Road, met as co-leaders of the parent teachers association at Ashdene School.

After forming a good working relationship the couple decided to make use of their partnership to set up an events business, 'Pulse'.

The first disco will be held on Saturday, January 31, but while the party organisers promise a night of fun, Catherine stressed to parents that their children will be in safe hands.

She said: "The balance of safety and fun is very important to us. On the entertainment side, two of the North West's top DJs will play all the latest hits and a local special effects business will ensure that everyone has a memorable time.

"However, we won't tolerate any unacceptable behaviour and troublemakers will be asked to leave without a refund."

To support their behaviour policy, which also includes no smoking or drinking alcohol, Linda and Catherine have employed a professional security firm to keep order.

They have also been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau - nothing to do with the play list - and claim the full backing of both Macclesfield Borough and Alderley Edge Parish Council.

Admission, priced £8, will be on a first-come-first-in basis, with doors opening at 7.30pm and the last dance at 10.30pm.

Refreshments and snacks will also be available, with the first drink free with a completed entrance pass.
