A woman says she is being forced to evict her pregnant sister to help her get a council house.

Mum of one Michelle Kenworthy, 39, of Millbrook Grove, on Wilmslow’s Colshaw Farm estate, took in her sister April Kenworthy, 32, and her two children after the breakdown of her relationship.

The two families have been sharing a two-bedroomed house for three years.

But now circumstances have become more desperate because April is expecting twins in December.

Michelle said: "The only way my sister will get a house of her own is if I make her homeless.

"I would have to physically evict her, and the council would then have to put her in a hostel for the night and they find her somewhere in the morning – I’m not sending my pregnant sister and her kids to a hostel. It’s disgusting. They are putting the onus on me."

Michelle, who works as a service adviser for Mercedes, said: "There just isn’t enough room for two more children – Jack, 13, already sleeps in the living room. We are desperate – in four weeks there are going to be seven of us in a two-bedroom house."

A spokesman for Cheshire East Council said: "We cannot comment on individual cases.

"However, our officers do not advise people to become homeless – that goes against our whole ethos. Officers are there to provide advice to prevent homelessness and, in the circumstances of an expectant mother living with her sister, we would look at ways to maintain her current living arrangements or look at other housing options, if that was not possible.

"If this person applies to Cheshire Home Choice, she would be assessed on the information provided on the application or during discussions with officers."
