POLITICIANS are usually known for their silky words not their silky threads but Shadow Chancellor George Osborne is doing his bit for fashionable rhetoricians everywhere by polling in the top 50 best dressed men in BRITAIN!

The Tatton MP has made it into GQ’s who’s who of stylish hommes at number 42 ahead of some of the couture world’s biggest movers and shakers.

A new entry this year, the trend bible described Wilmslow’s Parliamentarian as "one of the smartest politicians in the House," but, intelligence aside, the magazine gave him his high place for his Saville Row savvy.

Sean Dixon of Saville Row Institution said: "He tries very hard not to look like a privileged ex-public school boy, but the quality still shines through. And that’s a compliment."

Top of the suited and booted tree is music producer of the moment Mark Ronson with film director and former Mrs Madonna Guy Ritchie coming in a close second.

Although George is one of only two politicians in the list, his voguish rival is only the captain of his ship and leader of the Conservative Party - David Cameron.

The 42-year-old MP for Witney in Oxfordshire was ranked at number eight by GQ’s bosses, describing a correlation between the national debt and how good Cameron looks, ie the bigger the better.

George wouldn’t let the Express into his style secrets as he refused to comment on his new status as modish trendsetter.

But his constituency secretary Jane Robertson said: "I think George is a much better dressed than David Cameron."
