A MOVING tribute concert will be held in honour of a popular Fallibroome High School pupil who died suddenly last year.

Fergus Moran succumbed to a rare lung infection – PVL Staph-Aureus – on November 28, 2008, aged just 12.

PVL Staph Aureus is a toxin which destroys white blood cells. It can cause severe infection. Certain strains generally affect previously healthy young children and young adults.

The speed of the infection and the death were "a million to one" and shocked those who knew him.

And now friends, family and pupils are pulling together to host a poignant concert on what would have been the youngster’s 13th birthday.

Fergus’ mum Fiona Moran, who organised the musical celebration, said: "It would have been his 13th birthday so it seemed the most fitting tribute. He was at that age where he started to really enjoy his music. We would take him to concerts and lots of gigs.

"We thought this was the most positive thing we could do in his memory. And hopefully raise money to help those who were less fortunate than he was."

Earlier in the year Fergus’s team mates from Wilmslow Lacrosse Club hosted a day dedicated to the "lovely" boy.

His brothers, Miles, ten, and Fraser, eight, will join mum Fiona, 44, and dad Dave, 42, from Willowmead Drive, Prestbury, at the tribute.

Friends of Fergus from Fallibroome High School, and Fergus’ cousin, will be performing with their bands.

Nick Mitchell, 13, friend of Fergus and guitarist in The Index, one of the bands, said: "He really loved life and music, and was the sort of mate who would never let you down. We miss him a lot."

Conor O’Keefe, 13, lead singer, added: "We can’t wait to play at Fergus’ concert and we hope to do him proud."

The concert will be held on Saturday, July 18, at 7.15pm, at Fallibroome High School. Tickets cost £5 with proceeds donated to charity.
