Following the outstanding success of the Barnaby festival two local ladies Jane Munro and Debbie Quinn are organising a traditional Sunday market. Alleluia.

The monthly Treacle Market will be split across two sites with contemporary art, antiques, books and vinyl in Market Place and a range of fresh organic and unusual food and drink in Waters Green. There’ll be children’s story telling and live music to enjoy.

Go out and support it. Take a basket and fill it with goodies. Get the whole family involved. It’s a real chance to get community spirit flowing again.

Thanks God for ladies such as these. If we waited for a council initiative we’d all be dead.

Let’s see what else we can do. How about some live theatre in Market Place or a talent competition? If they can organize an ice rink in the centre of Manchester why can’t we have one in Macclesfield?

Treacle Market may be just the start.

Well done, girls.
