A man smashed a neighbour’s window after suspecting him of burglary, a court heard.

Andrew David Scott, 46, necked at least five pints at a pub before going home where he found his i-Pod docking station missing, magistrates were told.

He also claimed he saw a suspected trespasser hiding behind his bed, the court heard.

He then smashed the windows of a flat of the man he suspected of stealing his property and the flat of a woman the victim associated with, magistrates were told.

When Scott was arrested he had blood on his hands, the court heard.

At Macclesfield magistrates’ court on April 12, Scott, of Woburn Close, Macclesfield, admitted two charges of criminal damage.

Debbie Byrne, prosecuting, said the incident happened on March 23.

She said: “At 10.30pm one of the victims went to bed.

“Suddenly he woke to hear breaking glass.

“He then found his bathroom window had been smashed.

“Another witness, a female, was also woken by loud shouting and banging.

“She saw the defendant had blood on his hands and believed him to be intoxicated."

“The defendant was arrested and told police in interview that he had gone to the pub at 4.30pm and drank six or seven pints, maybe more.

“He said when he got home he discovered his i-Pod docking station was missing.

“He thought he had been burgled.

“He went to his bedroom where he thought he saw someone behind his bed.

“He said he couldn’t remember anything after that.

“He suspected one of his neighbours was responsible for the burglary, and believed the female victim to be associated with him.

“He said he went round because he wanted to break the man’s nose.

“The damage cost £288 to fix.”

Becky Dawson, defending, said Scott has no recollection of the incident and normally gets on well his neighbours.

She said: “He said he went to the pub as he always does on a Tuesday and met his friends.

“He then woke up in a police cell.

“It is disturbed by this as the walk to his home from the pub is half an hour.

“He suspected he may have had a reaction to his back pain medication and sought advice from the doctors.”

Scott, who is unemployed, was fined £160.
