A man was rescued from a house fire which is being treated as suspicious.

The victim was trapped in a first floor floor bedroom during the blaze on the staircase of the terraced property on London Road in Macclesfield.

He was given fire survival advice after calling the Control Centre at 7.11pm on Saturday, November 2.

Three crews from Macclesfield and Poynton were scrambled to the fire.

One firefighter entered via the ground floor, while another firefighter pitched a ladder to a second floor window and successfully rescued the casualty.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance, suffering smoke inhalation.

Crews used one hose reel jet to tackle the fire. A large fan was used to clear smoke from the property.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire Service said police were investigating the fire which is being treated as 'suspicious'.
