A man was rescued from a fire in a flat started by cooking left unattended.

Firefighters were called to the flat on Abbey Road in Macclesfield at 2.31am yesterday (Sunday, October 17).

The crews from Macclesfield and Poynton went into the flat wearing breathing apparatus.

One man was helped to safety while the crews tackled the fire which had been caused by cooking left unattended.

The man was treated by paramedics for the effects of inhaling smoke.
