A MACCLESFIELD man charged with the murder of a 60-year-old granddad will be able to spend Christmas with his family, after being granted bail yesterday (Tuesday).

Andrew Kirkby, 20, of Congleton Road, was remanded into custody earlier this month by Macclesfield magistrates, but was released by a judge at Chester Crown Court.

He was granted bail on the conditions that he resides at his home address, reports to Congleton Police Station three times a week, does not contact prosecution witnesses, does not enter Macclesfield town centre and also places £50,000 surety on his bail.

Kirkby will next appear at Chester Crown Court for a plea hearing in February 2008.
