TWO police forces, a helicopter and a mountain rescue team were scrambled to search for an elderley man reported missing at Alderley Edge last week.

The man, reported to be in his sixties was seen walking towards the Edge off Macclesfield Road between 4-5pm on Wednesday, November 26, when cops received initial reports of concern for his safety.

Officers from both Macclesfield and Wilmslow NPUs were deployed with a dog, night visibility equipment and the Lowland Moutain Rescue team.

The search party scoured the area for a man desribed as being white, 60 to 70-years-old with a slim build, 5ft 10in, grey hair, wearing a blue anorak and beige trousers.

A police spokeswoman initially told the Express that: "Police are concerned for his safety and are keen to track his whereabouts to make sure he is safe and well."

A thorough search was conducted by air support and specialist units on the ground before witnesses saw the man in the village centre of Alderley Edge.

Sgt Andy Gardner explained the large response to the missing man. He said: "We have low, medium and high categorisations, and this was high risk. We use everything we’ve got because it’s saving a life."
