A magistrate slammed a thug who punched his ex-girlfriend twice as “a feeble sample of manhood”.

Paul Timothy Whittaker, 21, was also branded ‘pathetic’ during a dressing down from Macclesfield magistrate Graham Hall.

Whittaker, of Sandwich Drive, Tytherington, was found guilty of two charges of assault by beating, one of criminal damage and using threatening, abusive words to cause harassment, alarm or distress, in his absence after failing to attend a trial on February 18.

At a hearing on Wednesday (March 11) Whittaker was sentenced to an 18 month community order with 120 hours unpaid work and supervision.

Sentencing, Mr Hall, chair of the bench, said: “Take it from me it really is a feeble sample of manhood that uses his fists against a woman. It’s absolutely pathetic.”

The court heard that the first assault happened at a house in Macclesfield between June 15 and July 15, last year.

Kate Marchuk, prosecuting, said: “The complainant was at home in the kitchen with the defendant, whose brother Adam was upstairs.

“The defendant punched her in the face once then grabbed her head and tried to hit it against a tap and the sink. He then grabbed her by the throat. She managed to let out a scream and Adam came downstairs. The defendant then left the house.”

The court heard the victim immediately ended the relationship but that the defendant ‘refused to leave her alone’.

Mrs Marchuk added: “On October 1 the victim was walking down an alleyway when she heard the defendant say from behind ‘Oi, you little rat’. She thought he was going to hit her and shouted ‘stop, don’t, please’. The victim saw a female nearby and appealed for help and tried to cross the road but the defendant grabbed her by the arm and held her against the wall.

“He said ‘I told you I am not a guy to mess with’ and then punched her in the face.”

The other charges relate to an incident on Beech Lane, Tytherington, on December 19.

The court heard that a witness saw the defendant shouting into a letterbox and then smashing the glass on a door.

Magistrates were told when he was arrested he shouted homophobic remarks at the police officer.

Last year Whittaker appeared to taunt police on the Macclesfield Express' Facebook page when they put out a warrant for his arrest after the assaults.

A message was posted from a Facebook account purporting to belong to him on a police appeal for information about his whereabouts. It said: "hahahahaha no way pulling out all the stops".

Julian Farley, defending, said: “He had fully planned to deny the assault offences but got the wrong day for the trial. He accepts the criminal damage and abusing the police.”

Whittaker was given a restraining order banning him from contacting the victim or entering Crompton Road.

He was also ordered to pay £200 compensation to the victim of the assault.
